Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of quilting services are offered?

We offer edge-to-edge quilting on your quilts. We do not offer free motion or custom quilting.

What is the cost to have a quilt long armed by your long arm specialists?

The cost (on average) is .03 cents per square inch. To find the approximate cost, multiply the width of your
quilt by the length of the quilt by .03 (W x L x .03).

What is the size of quilts you can quilt?

Quilts up to 110” in width can be accommodated on our Bernia system.

Can I just drop off my quilt to be quilted?

Quilts are only taken in by appointment only. Please call the store (586-779-7507) to schedule an
appointment with our specialist. Once your quilt is taken in, it will take approximately 1-3 weeks to have it
completed.

What happens at an appointment?

At the appointment you will have a consultation about your quilt top. This is also where you will choose
thread color and a design/pattern for your quilting. The specialist will offer suggestions and options.

What if you don’t have a design I like?

Our specialist will offer websites where you can browse for designs at home. If you find a design that you like,
please consult with the specialist first and they will tell you if it is suitable. If your chosen design is acceptable,
it will be ordered and the cost of the design will be added to your quilting.

How do I prepare my quilt to be quilted?

For your quilt to be quilted you will need:
1. Backing for your quilt. The backing must be 6-8” larger than the quilt top on all four sides. Backings
must have straight edges. If you are piecing your back, you may leave the selvages on, and use a larger
seam (3/4”) when piecing the back to cover the selvage. You may also use a wide back fabric which
requires no piecing.
2. Batting for the quilt. We have 100% cotton batting by Quilter’s Dream on the roll in white and natural.
We can cut what you need. We also offer packaged batting by Quilter’s Dream. The cost of the batting
will be added to your quilting.
3. Quilt top. Pressed. If your quilt top does not have a border, please stay-stitch around the edge to
prevent raveling of seams.
